Student Design Projects:
The development of HEEP and the
Wetlands Remediation Action Plan
In association with the UConn landfill closure, Kristin Schwab engaged her students in a Landscape Architecture class to design a vision for the wetlands and open space that the University has set aside. Working with the real-life regulations and needs of this land, five student groups created detailed master plans for the site to reflect the social and community needs of the area, as well as incorporated important educational and recreational tools to attract visitors and appreciation for this site.
After review, the workgroup in charge of designating an action plan for this site hopes to include the best design features of these projects -- making these wetlands a focal piece and a highlight of UConn and its goals for sustainable design.
