Recycling & Waste Reduction Efforts


The Department of Residential Life remains a committed partner in UConn's movement towards greening its campus.

Recent Initiatives Include:

 

Recycling Bags in Residence Halls

In Fall 2008, all rooms and suites across campus were given recycling bags for their rooms.  The bags have the UConn Recycling Guidelines printed on one side and can be hung from door handles to avoid occupying floor space.  The bags allow students to sort their recyclables from the beginning, making it easier to dispose of them properly at the recycling stations located on each floor.

 

CFL Giveaways

Residential Life has generously co-sponsored CFL giveaways with the Office of Environmental Policy for the past couple of years. Installation of CFL bulbs across campus not only lowers energy use but decreases the amount of light bulbs entering the waste stream due to the comparatively long life span of the bulbs as compared to traditional incandescents.
