Raingardens:

Stormwater Management

 

Hilltop

Year of completion: 2005

With faculty from the Department of Natural Resources Management & Engineering and staff from the Cooperative Extension System, the LID workgroup has successfully recommended that rain gardens be installed to alleviate stormwater runoff in the apartments. The gardens' implementation is currently being documented with high-resolution digital imagery.

Plantings: River Birch, Buttonbush, America Elder, Switch Grass, and New England Aster.

Towers

Year of Completion: 2004

Thanks to Jack Clausen and Mike Dietz, from the Department of Natural Resources Management & Engineering, rain gardens have become an integral part of the sustainable design strategy of the University.  Such gardens also exist at the following locations:
  

Old Co-Op location, adjacent to the Babbidge Library

Outside the Towers Dining Hall

The Uconn Law School
