BE HEARD! Acoustic Coffee House
Fall 2009

OEP’s BE HEARD! Acoustic Coffee House took place on Thursday, September 24th, at the Whitney Dining hall conference room.

The objective of the coffee house was to get the student body engaged in advocacy, to educate them on how to write a persuasive advocacy letter, and to garner support for two issues that the OEP would like to see changed: Firstly, planting more trees on campus after several were cut down last year. Second, adding an Environmental Studies B.A. degree to UConn’s curriculum.

Dozens of students attended, sipped coffee, enjoyed some unique acoustic music played by their fellow UConn students, and wrote letters advocating one or both initiatives to President Hogan and Provost Peter Nicholls. We collected 23 letters and sent them, along with the Daily Campus article which covered the event, to the administrators.

Thanks to all of those who attended and brought attention to adminstrators about environmental issues! Also thanks to Olivia Cowenhoven, the OEP Intern who made this all happen!
