UConn Student Climate Action Summit
February 5th, 2009 |
On February 5, 2009, University of Connecticut students attended a 'student summit' in the Storrs campus Student Union to discuss the University's commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050 and to strategize solutions.
During the summit, students
had the opportunity to contribute directly to the conversation by providing their own solutions for how the university can reduce its carbon footprint. After a short presentation on the university’s climate change planning efforts to-date, students broke into three groups and rotated between brainstorming stations led by undergraduate student leaders. Stations focused on energy use and conservation, transportation options, and campus education and outreach opportunities. The University’s Director of Environmental Policy, Climate Action Plan Project Manager, and Sustainability Coordinator were on-hand to answer questions as well.
The event was a great success! Thank you to everyone who participated!
