Contest Details

Each building in North, Northwest, Towers, and Shippee will compete against each other to see who can conserve the most energy and water based upon their previous usage.
The contest will take place from September 15-October 6
Participation points will be awarded by building when residents attend any of the scheduled events listed below.

The building that has the largest percentage of energy and water saved on a per person basis, factored in with the building's participation points, will be named the winner.  

The winning building will receive a Dairy Bar Ice Cream Party and an Energy Offset Certificate!

Eco-Captain Info Meeting in each residence area, 7 PM
Monday, Sept 15

Eco-Madness KickOff!

"Planet Earth" episode showing in each residence area, 7 PM

Wednesday, Sept 17 Trash Can Diving in each residence area, 6 PM
Monday, Sept 24 Eco-Trivia in the Dining Halls, 4-7 PM
Wednesday, Sept 24 "Into the Wild" movie showing at the Student Union Theatre, 6 PM
Thurs, Sat, and Sun Oct 2, 4, 5 "Wall-E" movie showing at the Student Union Theatre
Monday, Oct 6 Eco-Madness Ends

 

 

Sign up to be an Eco-Captain!!

Eco-Captains are responsible for promoting the Eco-Madness Competition.  They will motivate their fellow residents to conserve water and energy as well as be responsible for advertising the contest.

Why are we doing this competition?

By conserving energy, we can help reduce greenhouse gas and air pollution emissions into the atmosphere.

Using less water means reducing our negative impact on the environment.

Because UConn runs entirely off of wells, UConn's water consumption has already contributed to drying up a stretch of the Fenton River during the dry season.
Previous Eco-Madness competitions have saved up to 20.6 tons of CO2 in only 30 days!
