JUNE 2006

6/24 -- Mansfield Bike Tour; 8 AM- noon
Come join in the First Annual Tour de Mansfield: Village to Village! This event will provide a family-oriented activity for area residents, encourage exercise through cycling, bring awareness to the scenic beauty of Mansfield’s villages, draw attention to the Storrs Center/Downtown area and bring the community together around a social and recreational activity. Open to riders of all levels, and will include a 5-mile Family Fun ride and 20 or 40 mile Challenge rides. The rides will start and end at the Mansfield Community Center and will conclude with a barbecue at noon and a performance by the musical group “Shaded Soul”. Pre-Register before 6-17-06. (Late registration incurs a $5.00 fee). T-Shirts provided to the first 200 registrants.

6/24 -- Eggstock concert at Flamig Farm; 12 – 5 PM
EGGSTOCK is coming back at Flamig Farm, Simsbury, Connecticut!! …An Outdoor Music Festival and Environmental Exhibits. Scheduled as an annual event, this will be a day of music and fun in the fields.  Bring a picnic and chairs... or visit the food and beverage concessions. Music featuring pop- folk music singer/songwriter DAR WILLIAMS www.darwilliams.com. Also appearing, The Mayocks www.themayocks.com and soloist Chris Lynch - acoustic folk and rock and 7 piece Americana band Full Moon    

Advance tickets available at the farm …$10 adults …$5 children 3 thru 12.  $11.50 and $6 at the gate.

NATURAL AREAS VOLUNTEERS (NAV)

Sponsored by Friends of Mansfield Parks, NAV is a volunteer corps supervised by Mansfield Parks and Recreation and the Parks Advisory Committee.  Stewards and Co-stewards are assigned to a particular park/preserve, visit it frequently, know its management plan, and work with staff to care for it.  Workday Volunteers attend workdays as their schedules permit, helping with supervised projects such as seed collecting, brush clearing, trail blazing, etc.  Wildlife Monitors are trained to survey for interesting plants and animals.  Service groups are welcome, as are children over 8years of age when accompanied by an adult. 

  • Sat. April 29, 10-12pm:  Merrow Meadow (parking lot off Merrow Rd. near Willimantic River).

  • Sat. May 13, 10-12:00pm:  Eagleville Preserve (S. Eagleville Road, Dam parking lot).
